my $1,000,000 weekend

what really went down

Read time: 3 minutes

hello friends!

last week i had a major pinch-me-is-this-really-happening moment.

my first ever podcast interview with noah kagan was released (see above!).

but the most magical part of this experience was not the actual interview nor the press nor the listens, itā€™s how i got on the podcast.

everything stared with 1 tweet that triggered all 4 types of luck: luck from motion, luck from awareness, luck from uniqueness, & blind luck.

i share this story today to inspire you to create more opportunities for luck,

especially on the internet.

itā€™s so easy to get disillusioned by social media, forgetting about the people weā€™re connecting with online & the very real impact it can have on our real life.

todayā€™s merry menu:
šŸŒ® who the heck is noah

šŸŽ¤ my 1st podcast interview

who the heck is noah?

in case you donā€™t know, noah kagan (not the artist noah kahanā€¦) is the founder/ceo of appsumo, #1 software deals site. before that he was employee #30 at facebook & #4 at mint. heā€™s also a podcaster, youtuber (with 1M subs!), ok dork newsletter writer, & self-proclaimed taco aficionado.

while he wears his successes proudly, he wears his failures even more proudly. he got fired from both his jobs at facebook & mint, then failed 25 businesses.

heā€™s on a mission to help more people start & grow a business.

so he wrote ā€œmillion dollar weekend: the surprisingly simple way to launch a 7-figure business in 48 hoursā€

a book being released tomorrow (jan 30) thatā€™s already the #1 book on starting a business on amazon.

being alive at the same time & stumbling upon him was blind luckšŸ€.

our meet cute

as i mentioned on the podcast, i share everything iā€™m learning & doing in my business on social media because i want to inspire more people to take this chance on themselves & their dreams.

iā€™m still learning the social media ropes after a 5 year social media sabbatical, so i spend time every day studying & replying to the greats.

noah is one of those greats.

and in late august he posted on twitter an opportunity to join the launch team for his book, which i jumped on. i didnā€™t know what to expect, but sounded interesting.

the experience ended up far exceeding my expectations.

i got to pre-read the book, connect with other pre-readers, meet noah, & get an investment from noah in my business (see below).

this was luck from awarenessšŸ€.

yes i know, i need to update my og venmo pic

my million dollar journey

i got SO much from this experience.

the last few newsletters were on concepts that are covered in the book (the law of 100 & just asking). his book also sparked my most popular newsletter from october where i finally got around to introducing myself.

million dollar weekend hugely helped my business too:

  • doubled my revenue QoQ

  • grew my newsletter to almost 2K subscribers

  • inspired a new business service vertical with presentations & design

this didnā€™t just happen. this required work & created luck from motionšŸ€.

if you want to hear all the details, youā€™ll need to listen to our podcast.

and thank you to all those that already listened and shared your feedback.

really so touched by every comment!

giving > getting

another key book principle that i was already a big believer in is focusing on giving over getting. i love giving without expectation & paying it forward.

i love giving even more, when i get a lot from something like i did with this book.

i loved what noah was doing & was becoming more of a true fan (or as he says ā€œtrue homieā€) each day as i watched in awe at all he was doing behind-the-scenes for this book launch.

i wrote a testimonial, gave feedback on landing pages, & even created google sheet freebies that are included with the book bonuses.

this was luck from uniquenessšŸ€ in action.

my 1st podcast ever

then in late december, i was individually selected from the 1,000 plus people on the book launch team to be on noahā€™s podcast to talk about my experiences with the book & get coached by noah.

i was shocked & stoked!

iā€™d never been on a podcast before. i didnā€™t have a ā€œgoodā€ mic. i wasnā€™t given questions to prep. i didnā€™t even have the interview link until 10 minutes before.

so i focused all my energy in preparing on one thing:

showing up authentically.

i hope you feel this when you listen.

but more importantly. i hope this newsletter gives you hope that the tiny moments of kindness to strangers on the internet can payoff in ways more magical than you could ever imagine.

itā€™s how i landed this podcast.

landed apartments.

landed past jobs.

& even how i landed my boyfriend (but thatā€™s a story for a different day).

all required all 4 types of luck.

and iā€™m convinced that these 4 types of luck are what create magic.

that post podcast recording buzz

luck created by not giving a f*ck

todayā€™s newsletter partner is mark manson.

the infamous author of the mega bestseller self-help book for people who hate self-help. (odds are high youā€™ve noticed this not so subtle title on a bookshelf!)

did you know that mark writes a newsletter too?

if this book is your vibe, then i know youā€™ll love his free weekly newsletter where you get a few prompts & exercises to spark breakthroughs. i loved this one from a few weeks ago:

ā€œstatistically speaking, a ā€œnormal personā€ is physically unhealthy, emotionally anxious/depressed, socially lonely, and financially in debt. f*ck being normal.ā€
